If you don’t like the way the game is going, change the rules!

rules Yesterday the chancellor announce a suite of new measures to change the way the economy is heading, reducing VAT rates, talking about new Income Tax bands, deferring car tax increases.  Things which were unthinkable a little while ago are now happening!  Political parties are having to quickly revisit long-held beliefs and search for the real underpinning values and separate them from mere policies.

Today maybe a good day for you to consider what is really important and what is just a way to get it.  If you aren’t enjoying the results you are getting, it is time for you to change the rules too!

“My doctrine is not a doctrine but just a vision. I have not given you any set rules, I have not given you a system.”   Buddha

“Three Rules of Work: Out of clutter find simplicity; From discord find harmony; In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.”   Albert Einstein

Great stuff! Thanks for posting. :)

I made a decision earlier this month that I have to be the change I want to see. The curious thing about this is that despite doing coaching during this period I’d lost focus on myself. A valuable lesson learned.

I’m pleased to hear that you have woken up to that… Good for you!

I wish you well on your journey

    I like it Richard.

Like the Government I had a set of rules that I used to abide by then when they didn’t work.. I changed them. I now had new rules.. when they didn’t work I changed them. and so on….

Conclusion:- you have to be prepared, in business, to change your direction in an ever changing world

However:- the rules you never change are the ones you live your life by that make you the person you are.

    mmmm…

Not universally true though, is it?

I mean, when teaching kids how to play a game of… say… Monopoly or Snakes and Ladders they are taught that they can’t change the rules just because they are losing…. right?

And there are rules you can’t change in life, even if you don’t like the way the game is going… for example, robbing a bank because you’re short of cash – well you could do that but….

    Cheers

  6. No, NOT universally true

You are of course right… though I think we do choose which of society’ laws we consider inviolable. For instance, do we speed sometimes? Do we park on a Yellow line? Do we declare all our income? Do we take home office stationary? We all draw our personal line where we believe is the ‘right place’. As someone who is keen on two-wheels and speed, there are all sorts of minor ‘sins’ that might tempt you….

However, I do agree that we bring up our children with a set of tools that enables them to be discerning about how they hand ‘rules’

Thanks for an interesting avenue to explore Neil
