What value are values?

I was working with a long standing client today and we had to make some decisions that were both commercially and morally challenging.  They had to decide where they were going to draw up the boundaries on what behaviours they accepted from their staff.  There were two or three related issues that were very definitely […][...] read more » What value are values?

Are you going to finish strong?

International Wellbeing Survey – Results

MTV conducted a survey of 5,200 young people between 8-34 in fourteen countries to explore their sense of wellbeing  and how they see the future.  The UK came 6th, behind India, Sweden, USA, Denmark & France.  One of their key finding was that the people in the developing world were more optimistic and less stressed […][...] read more » International Wellbeing Survey – Results

Trust

I have talked in the last two days about conflicts and reconciliation.  Both are linked by trust, or its absence.  If you can find no grounds for trust then reconciliation is very hard if not impossible.  When trust breaks down, conflict often results. So where does trust come from?  We tend to trust things and […][...] read more » Trust

Drawing the line

I had an interesting conversation with a client today who was confronted with a fascinating ethical dilemma.  Obviously I can’t go into any of the details here, but at a generic level, he had been confronted by two tales which suggested that two different members of staff might be  behaving inappropriately.  However, the accusation against […][...] read more » Drawing the line

Expectations

Are such dangerous things, and I don’t know which are worse, our own or other people’s.  At times like this, the everyone goes into a period of mild hysteria and we conspire to brainwash each other about the ‘fun’ we are all going to have.  Hollywood and the media bombard us with saccharine, idealised Christmases […][...] read more » Expectations

Is today the beginning or the end?

Today is the winter solstice, the shortest day, the day the earth turns its direction and heads back towards the sun again.  Every day will get a little longer, a little lighter.  In the northern hemisphere we may still be in the grips of winter, but the light cometh. In more primitive times this was […][...] read more » Is today the beginning or the end?

Outside looking in..?

I suspect that it is a feeling we all get from time-to-time, whether it happens at a party, a family gathering or an online group, sometimes it just feels that we are on the outside of what is going on.  I noticed this with a virtual community, that at times I have been very active […][...] read more » Outside looking in..?
