Little Chef Change Experiment – the results … part 2

We decided to brave the remaining snow and ice that still lingers around here and venture down to Popham to try Mr Blumenthal’s new look breakfast at the Little Chef there.  I wanted to see if the change was real (see my earlier blog)

The first thing that hit you was the look of the place which was modern, functional and appropriate for its role.  The livery of the staff was sort of modern and funky.  Also noteworthy was cloud covered ceiling tiles and the urinals that serenade you when you use them with cockney ditties.

We were quickly and courteously greeted and breakfast arrived after  a wait of around 10 minutes but the place was packed.

The eggs were well cooked, the coffee quite acceptable ( and that from a cafe  snob); the black pudding and mushroom was really very tasty.  I think the sausages were ok but they could have been better.  The bacon and beans were a little disappointing, the former was undercooked and the latter tasteless.  All-in-all it was a tasty meal and I would certainly use them if all of them offered this standard.  Well done Heston and all the staff there!

So it would appear that leopards can change their spots.
