Out with the old… or Pumping out the water bed

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

So in phase 3 of the renovation of Cooke Towers, my wife has decreed that we need a new bed and our beloved water bed was now bed non grata!  I can understand that, and anyway, it is impossible to redecorate with the bed in situ, as it is impossible to move, so one way or another, it was going to have to be taken down.  Having to shift hundreds of gallons of water is not as simple as it seems and it involved me borrowing, wiring up and assembling a pump (despite my total lack of knowledge of these things!)  We have been pumping for about 3 hours now and we still have at least another half hour to go.

So I am forced to reflect that to get something new into one’s life one sometimes is forced to dismantle something loved.  It is oh so easy to stick with something one knows (and even likes) but this can become an impediment to bringing in something new that maybe better.  Of course there is a perfectly valid counter-argument for sticking with what you know works, but sometimes you need to create some space to allow Change into your life and your business… and your boudoir!
