Saying "You are important" or "I love you"

As human beings we all need to hear that we are important, that we are loved, whether it is by those who are near and dear to us or those at work.  At home it makes us feel emotionally secure; at work it makes us feel financially secure to know that we are  valued.  The trouble is that we don’t all speak the same language.

We have all heard that men are from Mars and women are from Venus, but there seem to be an infinite number of planets we all come from and when those who are close to us fail to communicate in the ‘right’ language we feel less valued and special.  Of course this cuts both ways and no doubt we are all just as often the sinners as those sinned against..

Whether it is in the family, or in the work place, we need to make sure that we take the time to get on the same wave-length and communicate our appreciation of those around us in terms that they can hear and value.

“At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.”  Albert Schweitzer
