General Election – Change lessons no2

There really are a number of key points businesses can learn from this process if they want to effect Change in their business.  Today, I’d like to talk about perhaps the core issue – the W.I.F.M factor.  Everyone wants to know, before they vote, What is In it For Me?”   People are guided by their perception of their own interests and who helps them and who threatens them.  Rich people are unlikely to vote for a high tax party whereas poorer ones might be appealed to by a redistribution platform.  In your business it is just the same; you have to understand how your people will perceive your ideas and make sure that they see and feel the benefits.

If the voters (or your people) don’t believe you, or don’t believe that voting will change anything, guess what?  Nobody bothers to vote.  If, like me, you live somewhere that is a ‘safe’ seat for one party, then you probably feel that your vote makes no difference, and you may not bother, unless you want to send a message to someone.

I’d like to think we are on the verge of a political breakthrough, but whether this happens or not, there is no reason you shouldn’t learn from this process and benefit.
